This is the very first keyboard I've ever owned. Used by many, praised by all. This is actually considered the very first complete music workstation. In the sense that you can sit down at it, play what you want, record the parts as individual tracks, adjust the levels how you like, and be pleased with the finished product.

It's sound capabilities are amazing, you first start out with 100 program sounds, and of those you can create up to 100 combination sounds. Those can be layered (2 or more program sounds on top of each other), split (2 separate sounds, but whose ranges are split somewhere on the keyboard, user defined), single (1 program sound, but this is useful if you want to keep the original and have a modified version), and I'm pretty sure there is another, but I am not positive.

Another awesome feature is it's expandable sound bank. You can buy cards (typically off of Ebay) to enhance the keyboard. They come in 2 card sets, one is the program data, the other is the sounds. After putting these two into your machine, you now have 100 additional programs and 100 additional combinations.

Aside from all of this, you have around 32 various filters you can put it through. Some of these are Flanger 1 and 2, Chorus 1 and 2, distortion, phaser 1 2 and 3, cross flanger, rotary, hall, room, stage, overdrive, and equalizer. Besides this, you can have 2 filters on each program or combination sound.

Then after you take all of the above, go ahead and tack on an 8 track sequencer to the machine, and you have the Korg M1.
